BICS, a global leader in wholesale carrier services, will be the launching customer for the IPX exchange (Inter-IPX) offered by AMS-IX Hong Kong. “The AMS-IX Hong Kong IPX exchange allows us to securely peer high-quality Internet Protocol (IP) traffic at a local level, offering our customers added value at a more cost-effective price,” says Eric Loos, Senior Product Manager of Capacity and IP at BICS.
Mobile data traffic is growing fast in the Asia Pacific. The Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) Mobile Forecast Highlights estimates that mobile data traffic will grow 10-fold in the period 2014-2019. This is a compound annual growth rate of 50%. The Inter-IPX service at AMS-IX Hong Kong responds to the business needs of local mobile operators for exchanging more content and volume with critical business partners.
“The AMS-IX Inter-IPX service is an extension of what AMS-IX already does best, which is offering a carrier-grade interconnection solution, with a commitment to the service levels that are required in an IPX environment,” says Eric Loos, Senior Product Manager of Capacity and IP at BICS. “It allows us to help our customers optimise their activities and compete even more dynamically in a market that presents new challenges every day.”
“We are pleased that BICS has chosen to connect to our Inter-IPX service and recognizes the value of this service for its organization and end-users,” says Job Witteman, CEO of AMS-IX. “With its innovative and high level of service, BICS is a valuable addition to our Inter-IPX community.”
The AMS-IX Inter-IPX solution allows IPX providers to peer IP traffic with each other in order to interconnect their customers, the mobile network operators. As such, end-to-end Quality of Service and security can be guaranteed. Furthermore, operational costs are reduced by bundling multiple services over a single, managed interconnect. The AMS-IX Inter-IPX service is GSMA compliant and supports IPX based services such as Premium Voice IPX, LTE Diameter signaling, GRX, and SIGTRAN. AMS-IX Hong Kong offers the Inter-IPX peering platform tailored to local market conditions. It offers a place where regional and neighboring IPX networks can efficiently link to one another and cover more territory, content and volume.
